DT Serum, Primary Testing In Progress

Sam nodded and went to his room, but kept the door open. It would allow him to hear if and when Dad was done with his bath.

Paul nodded. "A little bit. I need to practice spelling words for a test."

"Okay, let's do this," True smiled.  "I'll give you a word, and you try to spell it.  Get it right, you get a chocolate chip.  Deal?"

Paul grinned. "Deal!" He handed True a list of the ten words on the test.

True continued to clean the kitchen as he read the words off to Paul one at a time, mixing them up.  First, it was alphabetical, then long to short, and finally from the bottom of the list up.  As promised, each time Paul got a word right, he got a chocolate chip.  When the kitchen was sparkling clean, True gave him a nudge.  "Off to bed with you, Spelling champ!  Teeth, face washed, you know the drill."

(I like it over some other subjects, like Chemistry.)

Paul wasn't the greatest speller, but the repetition helped. He smiled and ran off to wash up for bed. "Thanks, True!"

(Chemistry, to me, is baking a cake.)

"Thank you," True whispered with a fond smile. Thank you for sharing your life and your love. Once sure Sam and Paul were getting ready for bed, True texted Kat.

~How's iit going? Working tonight?~

While he waited for a reply, True used the laptop Gaster had lent him to start researching. First he set up an account where he could sell his music, then he began searching.

Half an hour, True's patience was rewarded with a text from Kat.

~It's going. Yes, I am working right now, actually. Won't get off until midnight. Wish me luck!~

True smiled and glanced at tnhe clock. He had a while to go before midnight. He set his alarm before he forgot, just in case he fell asleep, then texted her back.

Kat texted back. After a while, True heard Gaster was going to head to bed here soon.

*POKE*

True was too caught up in what he was doing until his alarm sounded to hear anything Gaster said. He nearly jumped out of his skin then rubbed his eyes. Almost midnight already? Grabbing his coat and his ever present pack, he headed out to meet Kat, getting to the place just before midnight.

The place closed, and people filed out. It was a mens club, and a lot of guys of varying ages walked out. Kat walked out about ten minutes after they closed, as to try and not cross paths with any of them.

True let out a soft whistle to get her attention. "Excjuse me, little lady, but you look like you could use an escort home," he drawled in a flawless southern accent.

Kat was ready to take on a guy hitting on her when she heard the whistle at first, but smiled and relaxed when she saw it was just True. "You didn't have to meet me after work, you know." She said as she walked over to her friend.

"I know," True shrugged. "I wanted to. Besides, the busses stopped running ages ago, and it's a long walk, so I thought you'd like some distraction to make the trip go faster."

Kat smiled at him thankfully. "Okay. Thanks, True." She started to slowly walk with him home. She took her heels off to walk, since the need to wear them was over and she didn't want to kill her feet too much.

"You can hang those on the back on my chair if you want," True said, indicating a couple of thin cords tied across the back.

Kat nodded and accepted his offer. "Thank you." She said. "I didn't think you would be up at this time."

"Oh, I was up doing some research and lost track of time," True said glibly.  "How was work?  Any scum harrange you?"

Kat smiled a little. "Not any more than the usual. Nothing like that one night though."

"Good.  I was going to ask you-"  True froze, bringing his chair to a stop as he heard something in an alley  block away.  "Just stray cats, maybe?" he said, slowly wheeling closer.

"Maybe?" Kat said. "Are we going to investigate?" She asked. Kat wrapped her hand around her Mace can, just to be on the safe side.

"Stay back, I'm going to just look down, not go in," True said.  Normally he'd never even stop, but something felt familiar.  He rolled to the mouth of the alley and looked down.  Sure enough, several cats hopped about the cans... along with a small figure.  True frowned.  "Shuni?"

Kat frowned. What was a Shuni? Was it someone True knew? And if so, how?

The figure crouched, hiding for a moment.
True wheeled a little down the alley.  "Hey, Shuni.  Remember me?"
Shuni slowly inched out from behind the trashcan, peering at True.  "Truthful one, your daddy is the doctor."
"That's right," True smiled.  "Will you come out here?"
Shuni hesitated then slowly inched closer to the light.  He was skinny, dirty, and ill kept.  He looked like the farel cats he tired to care for.  He didn't like being dirty, but it was hard to stay clean when there was nowhere to wash.

Kat waited where True told her too. She was super curious to see and meet this Shuni, but wasn't sure if True or Shuni would appreciate that very much. She fiddled with her purse strap in the meantime.
