DT Serum, Primary Testing In Progress

Ashton smiled a little. "I'll race you back."

Shuni grinned.  "Keep up if you can!"  He took off running down the road as fast as he could.

Ashton kept up really well. He knew he could outpace Shuni, but let his little brother win anyway.

Shuni poured all he had into his final sprint and slammed against the door.  "I win!" he yelled, panting.  He looked back at Ashton, his eyes shining.

Ashton slowed to a stop at the door. "Yeah? Good job."

Shuni opened the door for Ashton and grinned, letting him go in first.  "Are we working in the attic with Lex?"

"Yup. Let me find him first." Ashton said. He headed upstairs to see if Lex was there.

Lex was up in the attic fitting new braces to the existing beams.  He glanced over at Ashton and took a couple of screws out of his mouth to talk.  "Hey.  Get the kids walked and whatever?"

Ashton nodded. "Ready for help?"

"If you're ready for givin' it," Lex answered, holding out a pair of leather gloves.  "Put these on first.  The kid can use the screwdriver and get the screws started.  You can drill the holes.  Sound fair?"

Ashton took the gloves and nodded. "Shu, we're up here. Lex, did you mark out where the screws are needed?"

Lex hooked a thumb toward a stack of wood to Ashton's left.  "All a lot of little penciled circles.  The drill is charged up and ready to go."

Shuni clambered up the stairs and looked around in awe.  "This is a good space."

Ashton nodded and went to work. He instructed Shuni on what to do and where. He even showed his brother how to do it once, and made sure to go over Shuni's work to double check it.

Shuni paid close attention to Ashton.  As with everything he did, once he was physicaly shown and made a couple of clumsy mistakes, he was able to manage decently.  He wouldn't be a master carpenter anytime soon, but it was worthy of a nice fixer-upper attic.

Lex mostly ignored the other two as he did his work, manning the drill that pushed all of Shuni's started nails in and pausing occasionally to measure, cut, and mark more boards.

Ashton kept working, glad for something to do.

Kat came back around lunchtime. Ashton let her in when she came, and she went straight to True's room. She smiled. "Hi. I hope deli sandwiches are okay for lunch."

True didn't hear her, laying with his eyes closed, earbuds in his ears.  He had turned up the music on his ipod as far as he could to cover the sounds of the work above him, and the book on his chest showed he'd been reading.

Kat smiled and sat beside his bed and patiently waited. He might be hungry when he woke, and Kat would offer food then, but if he was sleeping, she didn't want to disturb him.

True sensed a shift in his bed when she sat and his eyes popped open.  He let out a startled yelp and started to scramble away until he realized it was Kat.  "Good grief, woman!  What are you trying to do?  Scare me into an early grave?" he squawked, taking out his ear buds.

Kat sstuck her tongue out at him. "I tried letting you know I was here... but you had your music turned up and were Captain Oblivious. Rude. I even brought lunch for you, and this is how you treat me?"

"If you were me, you'd be trying to be Captain Oblivious, too," True said dryly, raising his voice to be heard over the sound of a drill as it started up.  "Did you say lunch?  I'm famished!"

Kat laughed and wordlessly showed True the deli sandwiches, and also pulled out two thermoses of lemonade. She gave a sandwich and a thermos to True.

"Yum!"  True grinned at Kat and gave her a thumbs up as the sound stopped.  "Thanks.  This looks good."

Kat smiled. "Well, I hope it tastes good too!"

"If it was touched by you, then it will," True told her sincerely.

Kat blushed a little and took a bite of her sandwich. It always flattered her when True said such sweet things so sincerely.
